A New Animal on the Farm

The monstrous yellow lab (Sandlot, anyone?!) picked up speed, and the gut-wrenching feeling returned. I was not going to make it across the back yard, to the safety of the area beyond the electric fence. The dog licked and jumped, knocked me down and much to my horror would not let me go. Even though I was screaming, no one came to my rescue…

They thought I was laughing. They thought I liked THAT dog.

Well, I didn’t like the dog. And that experience, often repeated, shaped my strong dislike for all animals! Add some serious allergies, and I was a HUGE (I’m sorry) hater of animals.

Fast forward several years, and a cute runt of a kitty… I had a Damascus Road heart-change. Y’all, I’m a puddle when it comes to animals, nowadays. And, somehow, the allergies have disappeared. (Coincidence?! You be the judge!)

That cute runt of a kitty grew, and for various reasons, we had to get rid of him. But our broken hearts were soon mended….

Meet Vita, our sweet puppy girl who reminds us of the blessing of Life. She is a blue heeler, or Australian cattle dog, and currently almost 5 months old.

While we planned for our next set of animals to be livestock, chickens & goats, we were given a special opportunity to welcome….

Meet Rufus! A sweet, “Heinz 57” puppy mix that was abandoned on the side of a road. He is sweet and snuggly, but a bit snappy and very territorial. He will make a great guard dog, I’m sure!

They will both remain inside dogs for a few more months, until they get a proper dog house and it gets warmer out. Check back soon for a DIY dog house designed and built by my handy hubby!

Now, it’s your turn! Tell me about your fur babies. (Extra points for pictures!)
