About

Welcome! I’m Ashley, a wife and home-school mom to 2. I am drawn to all things simple, peaceful and practical. I love coffee, books, creating delicious meals in the kitchen, and getting my fingers dirty in the garden.

Our family recently moved from the suburbs to the country. Both my husband and I grew up in a fairly large east coast city. Over the years, we have slowly transitioned from the heart of town to the outer edges to the middle of nowhere.

We are not your average homesteaders, and still struggle with the appropriate term for what we are doing. We have never raised livestock or owned more than your average neighborhood-sized plot of land. My very first plant (read plants, as I returned it to the store a few times for the “if-you-kill-it” guarantee) was in a pot, on a concrete patio.

But, we have HUGE aspirations for turning our land into a beautiful space where we can spend more time together and grow our own food. I invite you to join us in the good, the bad, and the dirty as we learn how to cultivate this land!

I am so glad you stopped by The Rural Companion!
