Earlier this summer, I listened to a podcast from John MacArthur in which he details his plan for Bible study. He recommends that not only should you have a specific time of daily Bible reading, but also that you really dig into the passages you are reading. In addition, he mentions one other key concept for reading the Word and imparting it into your life: REREAD the same passage, on repeat. Every day. For a month!
When I first heard this, I couldn’t wait to dive right in. But I was working through a chronological reading plan of the Bible, and figured it was better to continue. I also figured that I typically restart my Bible reading plans at the beginning of the year.
Now that we are days (hours?!) away from the New Year, I typed up a simple bookmark checklist for the upcoming year. I love to check off items on a list as this gives me a sense of completion. I also wanted to share this slow reading plan printable with you!
Because this plan goes through one book per month, it will take a tremendous amount of time to complete the New Testament. While John MacArthur recommends beginning with 1 John, I have started my personal version of this plan with Ephesians. Pray about where God would have you start this deep dive into Scripture, and go where HE leads.
By reading the Bible repetitiously, you will find that your total comprehension increases dramatically. That’s because the Bible explains the Bible. God didn’t write it to trip us up; He wants us to understand it.
