We have lived in our home for over two months, and our entryway has remained quite bare. I know with the upcoming renovation the entire space will be refreshed by removing a wall and adding new flooring. It will feel more like part of the living area and less like a very awkward, unused hallway.
With all of that openness heading our way, I have felt a bit at a loss of how to refill the space. I figured a welcome sign, some hooks and maybe a seating/storage area would be great. Beyond that, I wasn’t quite sure of where to go….
After weeks of “google-ing” entryway’s and standing in the space, I decided to go with the traditional, yet popular farmhouse-style. I began scouring antique shops and the local sales pages to find that perfect, beautiful meets old, traditional….
Church Pew
I found an original pew that had been restored by a local wood worker and made arrangements to pick up that weird red pew. I had intentions of stripping and staining, and dreaded that it would have to wait weeks before I could get around to it. And that, since it didn’t match it would have to wait in the garage….
We arrived at the workshop, only to find 2 of those red pews that I settled on, and one lovely, stained and very traditional pew in the exact color I had envisioned for the entryway space. I boldly asked if I could have that one instead, and he agreed! It fits perfectly in the space and calls for some pillows and baskets beneath.
The pew was originally 22 feet long and from a church in Hennessey, Oklahoma which is about 60 miles away. It was used from 1962 until 2019, and has a piece of gum stuck underneath!! (Yes, my kids think that is weird and want to remove it. It’s staying, y’all!)
Welcome to our home! Take off your shoes, grab a blanket, and get cozy. We are so glad you stopped by!!
