Rainy Days

The rain pours steadily down on our home. It’s cold and dreary, and I’m a tad bummed about being stuck inside after yesterday’s taste of spring. I’d rather be in the garden, (great bumper-sticker!) but I’m so thankful we have a dry, warm space to rest in. And a reason to snuggle on the couch with another steaming mug of coffee. To watch the birds dance about in the puddles while hunting for a wormy dinner. To play board games, make lesson plans, read books and, maybe (Please, Mom! It’s raining…) watch a show.

Instead of wishing for yesterday, or tomorrow, I will be content and see the shower of blessings lovingly poured out in this space. I may still dream of the warmer days to come, but will not wish away these restful, chilly days that restore our souls. The warm will come, and quickly consume us. The breeze will be suffocating and we will long for cooler nights and, gasp!, snow.

I will be present on this day, instead of longing for something different!
