Almost all of the beautiful snow has melted. The winter gear has been packed away. The sun, in all it’s glory, is shining bright and warm. And it’s back to feeling like spring.
The puppies are busy exploring together. They are happy to be outside, even in the snow, but so much more in the warmer weather. It also gives us more freedom to leave them (in the chicken coop) for our weekly run to town!
Each week we make the 6-mile journey to the main street that has the only stoplight! On our drive, we often talk about when Ma & Pa, in The Little House in the Big Woods, would have to drive to town in a covered wagon. And, it was an all day affair. We have been to Pepin, Wisconsin and traveled from “town” to the original homestead. It was a quick car ride!
While I’d love to be a bit more intentional with our trips to town, like Ma & Pa were, we still end up making the drive several times each week. It’s not a once a month or season kind of thing. Church, forgotten food items, and our usual favorites have us returning often!
First up, a stop at the post office (picture taken in front of our house.) Coffee from our favorite roasting company and seed catalogs were awaiting us!
Next, off to the bakery. The first time was to try a town specialty, but it has become a yummy tradition to wrap up our week.
Last, we head to the library. It is so quaint and welcoming. We can borrow or buy books (and you can bet, we do both!)
Now that we are “country folk” going to town has become so fun! We are truly in the best of both worlds- being surrounded by beautiful open land, yet being just a few miles from groceries, the post office and the library.
